Client Retention Call Scripts for Tattoo Artists
Client retention in tattooing isn’t about “checking in”—it’s about healing, trust, and making sure your work looks solid long after they leave your booth. Because you can’t stop mid-line to answer the phone, having tight, ready-to-read scripts helps you follow up fast, fill cancellations, and keep clients coming back for sleeves, touch-ups, and their next idea.
24–48 Hour Aftercare Check-In (Tattoo)
Use this the day after a tattoo (especially medium pieces $300–$800 or anything with heavy shading).
“Hey [Name], it’s [Your Name] from [Shop]. Just checking in on how your tattoo is healing—any heavy swelling, heat, or weird redness around the edges? Quick reminder: wash with mild soap, pat dry, and do a thin layer of aftercare—don’t suffocate it. If you can, text me a clear photo in good light so I can confirm it’s looking normal. If you’re seeing spreading redness, yellow/green discharge, or you feel sick, I want you to get it checked right away. Want me to send a quick aftercare recap so you don’t have to dig for the paper?”
Tips for this scenario
- -Ask for a “window light” photo (near a window, no flash) so you can actually judge redness vs irritation.
- -Use the words clients say: “Is it oozing?” “Is it raised?” “Is it peeling like a sunburn?”
- -End with one simple next step (send a photo) so they don’t feel pressured to talk long.
