Business Phone System Setup Guide for Garage Door Companies
Your phone is your fastest path to $200–$400 spring jobs and same-day opener repairs—if you answer first. Garage door work is loud, hands-on, and dangerous (spring tension isn’t something you pause for), so your phone system has to catch emergencies, filter junk, and route real customers fast.
1) Choose the right phone number (so customers trust it in an emergency)
Most of your best calls sound like: “My spring snapped,” “My door is stuck halfway,” “My car is trapped,” or “It’s off the track and scraping.” These people call 2–4 companies back-to-back. If your number looks local and consistent everywhere, you get picked more often.
Pick one “main” number and protect it. Ideally, get a local number in the city where you actually run most calls (the same area code customers see on neighborhood signs and trucks). Avoid switching numbers—your Google Business Profile, yard signs, truck decals, and old invoices keep generating calls for years.
If you cover multiple towns, don’t create five main numbers that all ring your cell. Instead, keep one main number and add tracked “secondary” numbers only for ads (like Google Local Services Ads). Use those as tracking lines, not your public identity.
Practical choice for garage doors: Use a dedicated business number (VoIP) that can ring multiple techs plus a backup answering option. That way, when you’re winding springs or lifting a heavy door, the call still gets handled.
