Pricing Inquiry Response Scripts for Floor Installers
Pricing calls are where you either win the job or lose it to the fastest installer who answers. As a floor installer, you’re often mid-cut on a miter saw, running a nail gun, or spreading thinset—so you need scripts that get the right details fast, give a believable range, and protect you from “ballpark” quotes that come back to bite you.
1) The standard “How much to install flooring?” call (quick triage + range)
Use when the caller only wants a price and hasn’t shared room size, product type, or demo needs.
“I can definitely help with a ballpark. Flooring prices swing a lot based on the material and what’s under it. Quick questions: what type of floor—LVP, hardwood, tile, or carpet? About how many square feet, and are we removing existing flooring or installing over it? If it’s a single room, most installs land around $1,500–$3,000 depending on materials and prep. If you tell me the type and rough square footage, I’ll narrow the range and tell you what would make it go up or down.”
Tips for this scenario
- -Ask for square footage first—customers often say “a bedroom” but sizes vary wildly.
- -Always ask about removal and subfloor issues (squeaks, rot, dips). That’s where budgets blow up.
- -Use the phrase “ballpark” to set expectations and avoid being held to a phone number.
