Complaint Handling Scripts for DJs
When you DJ events, complaints hit at the worst times—during cocktail hour, right before first dance, or while you’re tearing down at 1:00 a.m. The right words keep the room calm, protect your reputation, and stop a $1,000–$3,000 wedding from turning into a refund fight.
Initial Complaint (During the Event, Loud Room)
Use when someone approaches you at the booth while you’re mixing and the room is loud.
“I hear you. I’m in the middle of a transition right now, but I want to fix this. Give me 30 seconds to finish this song, then I’ll step to the side and you’ll have my full attention. What’s the main issue—volume, song choice, or timeline?”
Tips for this scenario
- -Point to your ear and ask them to speak close to your side (not over the mic) so you don’t guess wrong.
- -Repeat their issue back in one sentence so they know you understood: “So it’s too loud near the bar, right?”
- -If they’re upset, lower the master 5–10% immediately—small action calms people fast.
