Your business hours aren’t just a sign on the door—they decide how many $80–$200 sessions you book and how many callers drift to the spa down the street. As a massage therapist, you can’t pick up the phone mid-session without breaking the calm (and the client’s trust), so you need hours and call handling that match how people actually book.
1) The calls you get (and the words people use)
Most massage calls fall into a few buckets, and each one has a different “I need this now” pressure level.
• Same-day stress relief: “Do you have anything today?” “I’m so tense.” “I need a deep tissue ASAP.” These callers often book whoever answers first.
• Pain/injury support: “My neck is locked up,” “I tweaked my back,” “sciatica,” “headaches,” “TMJ,” “post-workout soreness.” They want to know if you do deep tissue, trigger point, sports massage, or injury-focused work—and they’ll ask about pressure and experience.
• Pre-event prep: “I have a race/wedding/trip tomorrow,” “Can you loosen my legs,” “I’m flying and my back is tight.” These spike around weekends and holidays.
• Gift/couples/package buyers: “Do you do couples massage?” “Can I buy a package of 5?” “Do you have gift certificates?” They care about availability, policies, and how to book fast.
Because your services are scheduled (60-min $80–$150, 90-min $120–$200, couples $200–$400, packages $350–$600), callers usually want two things quickly: your next openings and how to lock one in right now.
