Appointment Scheduling Tips for Pest Control Companies
Your schedule is your profit in pest control. The problem is you can’t always answer the phone when you’re in an attic, a crawl space, or suited up with a respirator—so the “next available” slot often gets decided by whoever picks up fastest. Use the strategies below to book faster, cut no-shows, and keep room for emergencies without blowing up your route.
1) Build your day around real pest-control job lengths (not “1-hour blocks”)
Most scheduling problems happen because pest jobs don’t fit neat calendar blocks. A “one-time spray” can be 25 minutes in a small condo or 90 minutes if you’re dusting a crawl space, sealing entry points, and writing notes for the next tech. Bed bugs and termites are their own categories and should never be treated like standard stops.
Use time blocks based on the job type you actually sell:
- One-time general pest treatment ($150–$400): book 75 minutes on site + 15 minutes for notes/chemical log.
- Quarterly service ($100–$200/quarter): book 45 minutes on site + 10 minutes for notes.
- Wasp/bee nest (urgent): book 45–60 minutes + 15 minutes safety/setup.
- Rodent service call (urgent): book 60–90 minutes because traps, bait stations, attic/crawl inspection, and entry-point check add time.
- Termite treatment ($500–$2,500): book as a half-day or full-day event depending on size and method (trench/rod, foam, bait system install), plus extra time for paperwork.
- Bed bug treatment ($1,000–$3,000): book in longer protected blocks (often 2–4 hours+), because prep confirmation, room-by-room work, and careful chemical application take time.
When the caller says “It’s just ants,” don’t schedule it like a quick stop. Ant calls in spring often become “ants plus moisture issue plus entry points,” and that’s where you lose your day if you under-book.
